US GYMNAST ALICIA SACRAMONE ANNOUNCES SHE WILL TURN PROFESSIONAL
Announces Professional Relationships with TrinityOne Marketing and Greenberg Traurig
Boston, MA (September 10, 2007) –2008 Beijing Olympics hopeful Alicia Sacramone, 19, announced today that she would forgo her NCAA eligibility in favor of a professional career in the sport of gymnastics.
She also announced today that TrinityOne Marketing, a division of TrinityOne Worldwide - one of the nation’s premiere sports and entertainment marketing companies, will represent Sacramone with all of her marketing, sponsorships and endorsements and Henry Holmes of Greenberg Traurig will serve as Sacramone’s legal representation.
A resident of Winchester, MA, Sacramone was born on December 3, 1987 and began gymnastics at the age of eight. Sacramone, currently a sophomore at Brown University (RI), distinguished herself both as the first gymnast in the history of the Ivy League to win every event en route to finishing first all-around at the Ivy Classic and as the only female gymnast on the US Team to combine full-time college study with participation in both NCAA and International Elite Gymnastics.
In the individual event finals at last week’s World Championships held in Stuttgart, Germany, Sacramone earned a silver medal on the floor exercise and a bronze medal on the vault. With a score of 15.325 on the floor exercise in the team competition, Sacramone also helped secure a gold medal for the United States women’s team with her routine that included a full-twisting double back, and a two-and-a-half front layout, finishing with a double pike. This was just the second world team title in U.S. history and the first won outside of the United States.
At the 2007 Visa Championships held in August in San Jose, CA, Sacramone earned a gold medal on the vault and bronze medals on the floor exercise and beam. Sacramone earned two silver medals at the 2006 World Championships in team and vault competition. At the 2005 World Championships, Sacramone won the floor exercise title and finished third in the vault. Earlier in 2005, she became the U.S. National champion on vault and floor exercise and was named USA Gymnastics’ Sportswoman of the Year. In 2004, she qualified for the World Cup Final as a wild card after placing first on vault at the Pacific Alliance and second at the World Cup in Ghent. She went on to win the vault gold medal at the World Cup Final ahead of the reigning Olympic gold and bronze medalists.
While Sacramone continues her studies at Brown University, she will continue training under her career long coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan of Brestyan’s Gymnastics Club in Burlington, MA.
